The NYU School of Medicine Three Year Pathway programs allows students to tailor their training through the development of individualized pathways in 20 programs.

Penn State College of Medicine Three-Year Accelerated Pathways, State College, PA

Penn State launched a 3-year program accelerated pathway in Family Medicine (FM-APPS) in 2014. The program has since expanded to include Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurosurgery and Orthopedics, with plans for other specialties.

Family Medicine Accelerated Track (FMAT) at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock, TX

The Family Medicine Accelerated Track (FMAT) at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) is a 3-year curriculum that leads to the MD degree and links program graduates to family medicine residency in one of TTUHSC’s programs in Lubbock, Amarillo or the Permian Basin.

Memorial Medicine Family Medicine Residency teamed up with Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) to institute an innovative 3-year accelerated medical school curriculum track in 2012. The program has opportunities for Family Medicine, Internal Medicine (primary care focus) over 3 campuses

The UC Davis School of Medicine Accelerated Competency-based Education in Primary Care (ACE-PC) Program is a six-year medical school/residency pathway for students committed to primary care careers.

The Medical College of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Green Bay, WI

The Medical College of Wisconsin-Green Bay is a 134-week, calendar efficient medical education curriculum leading to the awarding of the MD degree.

The Medical College of Wisconsin- Central Wisconsin, Wausau, WI

MCW-Central Wisconsin opened in 2016 as the second of two regional campuses of MCW (the first being MCW-Green Bay which opened in 2015), with our first graduating class in 2019. Our mission is to produce a community-engaged primary care and psychiatric workforce for Central and Northern Wisconsin.

McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

McMaster University has offered a 3-year degree since inception of program in 1969. Students enter Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS) in final year to compete with graduates from all Canadian medical schools; no direct entry residency streams

The Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University three-year MD program (3YMD @ RSOM)

Students who are accepted into the 3YMD enter a pipeline program that links them with the RSOM residency program of their choice.

University of Louisville School of Medicine Trover Campus Rural Medicine Accelerated Track (RMAT)

RMAT began in 2012 and is a 130 week curriculum with the clinical portion based at the ULSOM regional rural Trover Campus in Madisonville.

University of North Carolina: Fully Integrated Readiness for Service Training (FIRST), Chapel Hill NC

The FIRST Program is a 3+3+3 program, creating an accelerated and enhanced training connecting the medical training pipeline from three years of medical school to three years of family medicine residency, to three years of practice support following training in a rural/underserved area of North Carolina.

The Ohio State University Primary Care Track (OSU-PCT), Columbus OH

Ohio State’s Primary Care Track (OSU-PCT) is intended for students interested in a career in family medicine. This three-year medical school program culminates in the MD degree and offers a family medicine residency curriculum. Students who successfully graduate from the OSU-PCT will be offered acceptance into the OSU Family Medicine Residency Program.

Duke University School of Medicine, Raleigh NC

In 2016, Duke University School of Medicine implemented an accelerated pathway in orthopaedics (APO) to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of training in orthopaedic surgery.  A unique curriculum in the third year of medical school here provides the potential opportunity for up to two students to participate in an accelerated UME-GME orthopaedic residency program at Duke.  Students who successfully complete this third year are be eligible for direct admission into the Duke Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program PGY-1 level the following year.

Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine Accelerated Medical Pathways, charleston SC

The MUSC College of Medicine Accelerated Medical Pathways began in 2018 following the success of a 2015 pilot program in the Department of Orthopaedics. This program offers students the opportunity to meet graduation requirements in three years and enter a conditional residency position in one of 11 participating residency programs at MUSC.

Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine – Phase 3 - Entry into Residency Programs

Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine offers an opportunity for students to individualize their fourth year (Phase 3) experience based on their own professional and developmental needs and goals. Options for Phase 3 include dual degree programs (e.g. MBA), research or clinical immersion programs or entry into Residency. This residency entry option allows the student to enter a Hackensack Meridian Health residency program after three years at the SOM. We believe these Phase 3 options will provide an improved transition across the UME-GME continuum. The inaugural class began in July 2018.

Cooper medical School of Rowan University

Cooper Medical School of Rowan University now offers an accelerated three-year MD degree pathway for students interested in primary care or pediatrics. The Three-Year Accelerated Primary Care Track, known as PC3, allows students to earn their MD degrees faster and at a reduced cost.

NYU-Long Island

The NYU Long Island’s pioneering three-year undergraduate medical education program combines innovations in medical education and research together with high-quality patient care that is anchored in the principles of primary care and health systems science. To further advance our primary care mission, NUYLI pairs acceptance to the School of Medicine with an offer of a directed pathway to residency at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island.

Virginia Commonwealth University

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) began the competency-based graduation (CBG) program in 2018. Our program offers the opportunity for students to complete their medical curriculum in three years. ​Students apply and are selected in the first semester of their second year with enrollment into the CBG program following successful completion of USMLE Step 1. Students are placed in a specifically designated track in their clerkship year of medical school that provides them ​an accelerated path to graduation and direct progression into one of several ​participating residency​ programs at VCU and regionally. ​Progression is determined by a competency committee based on summative assessment of performance. The​se program​s currently include Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, OB-GYN, Pediatrics, and Psychiatry ​with plans to expand into other specialties. ​We have graduated two successful cohorts thus far with five students in cohort 2020 and four students in cohort 2021 respectively.

West Virginia University School of Medicine

The purpose of the Mountaineer Accelerated Track to Enter Residency (MATTER) is to present an accelerated pathway toward residency for medical students who have committed to a core specialty at West Virginia University School of Medicine. As a component of our career advising system, MATTER is a potential option for students to secure a residency position at one of our three clinical campuses. Students may apply to a core specialty, including family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, obstetrics/gynecology or pediatrics.

Wayne State School of Medicine

The three-year M.D. program is the only one of its kind in Michigan. WSU is among a small group of nationally-recognized schools to offer a three-year alternative to what is traditionally a four-year path. Geared to fit students who have previous health care backgrounds and careers, the program diversifies the School of Medicine's offerings for students who are ready to accelerate into their physician career by completing medical school and receiving a conditional, non-binding acceptance into a Wayne State residency position upon completion.

The Primary Care 3+3 Accelerated Program creates a directed pathway into one of four Geisinger residency programs in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
