Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine Accelerated Medical Pathways

The MUSC College of Medicine Accelerated Medical Pathways began in 2018 following the success of a 2015 pilot program in the Department of Orthopaedics. This program offers students the opportunity to meet graduation requirements in three years and enter a conditional residency position in one of 11 participating residency programs at MUSC.

·       All medical students are accepted into the traditional four-year pathway and may apply to the accelerated program during their first year.

·       Students in an Accelerated Medical Pathway pay 3 years of tuition and fees, as opposed to four.

·       The curriculum spans 133 weeks, which includes the traditional pre-clerkship curriculum,  7 clerkships, 2 selectives for career exploration, 1 program-specific selective, an externship, critical care elective, radiology elective, and an advanced medicine or surgery elective.

·       Students complete an additional selective in their host residency department, specifically designed for students in this program, to provide additional departmental exposure as well as an opportunity for students to take on intern-level responsibilities.

·       Students and residency programs participate in the NRMP, with the student ranked to match at MUSC
